Turists visiting Noronha must pay an Environment Tax.

The tax is calculated on the lenght of the stay; the longer the stay, the higher the tax per day (the intention is to disencourage longer stays).
The tax is defined in number of UFIRs; the value of the UFIR is defined yearly by the Federal Government, and follows the inflation rates.
Below, the actual values of the environment tax in Reais for the year of 2009 (right hand column).

Tax must be paid before arriving in the island, through the internet; travel agencies include the environment tax in the price of packages.
Visitors arriving without prior payment should pay a double tax.
